Sculpture in bronze, aluminium, corten steel, stainless steel or iron is achieved through different production processes, from ‘lost wax’ smelting, to chemical sand, and including boilermaking.
In the case of ‘lost wax’ smelting, Alfa Arte specialists make a silicon and plaster mould. The waxes are obtained from this, a faithful copy of the original. Once the wax has been adjusted, it is set up on a frame, and soldered with a hot spatula so as to be later covered with several layers of refractory pottery sand: the next step of the process consists of eliminating the wax from the mould, which is achieved by putting it into a pressure machine and using steam at a temperature of 150 degrees centigrade so that the mould is emptied of wax. Following this, the mould is vitrified at a temperature of 900 degrees centigrade, and in this way is made ready to receive the smelted metal.
After cleaning, the ceramic covering is eliminated, the troughs or canals through which the metal has flowed, and the piece is adjusted until the desired effect is achieved. Next, we proceed to its oxidisation or coating, until the required tone is achieved. |
