With a powerful digital camera and a series of laser beams (0.3 to 2.5 secs. per view) various scans are carried out, (20 micras accuracy), and from different views, until all the information is obtained regarding the topology of the object. This information is memorised so as to be used later by the computer. This phase is of crucial importance since the method used involves no physical contact at all, besides being rapid and accurate, thus allowing any object to be digitalised, however delicate, and whatever the surface texture may be.
